We are here to protect your child's happy smile!

Preventive dental care is critical in your child’s life, especially at a young age. Practicing oral hygiene at home with regular checkups can keep that smile healthy and shining for years to come.

Your children’s teeth need special care to fight off cavities through regular brushing. But, despite daily brushing, children may suffer plaque and tartar, which cause various dental problems. That’s why we recommend preventive care and regular dental cleanings to fight off cavities before they even occur. Preventive care also gives us the chance to discover problems and start treatment early to minimize their impact on a child’s teeth.

Preventive-Care

Some tips to protect your kid's teeth:

Regular teeth cleaning helps against tooth decay but it isn’t a guarantee. The way you feed your baby matters. Babies from 0 to 6 months need breastmilk or formula but those older than 6 months can have small amounts of water. Don’t give your baby any sugary drinks and when you start introducing solids, avoid food high in sugar.

When a baby’s teeth are exposed to formula or juice for a longer time than feeding time, baby bottle tooth decay is more likely to occur. Avoid putting your baby to bed with a bottle at all means. This increases the risk of tooth decay.

It is important to schedule the first dental visit within 6 months of when the baby’s first tooth comes in. Our doctors perform a quick visual exam and answer all your questions regarding infant oral care.

  1. Make sure that your kid brushes his/her teeth at least twice per day with a soft-bristled toothbrush
  2. It is important to use fluoride toothpaste to get rid of food remains and plaque from the teeth surface
  3. Bacteria that cause decay may linger between teeth, where a toothbrush can’t reach so using mouthwash is important to kill this bacteria and keep a freshen breath
  4. Less sugary treats and a balanced meal are highly recommended for a healthy smile. Make sure that your kid east nutritious food such as vegetables, fruit, cheese, and plain yogurt
  5. It is important to schedule regular checkups every six months for professional teeth cleaning

New and Healthy Tips

Management of teething

The eruption of primary teeth usually begins around 4-8 months of age with the eruption of the lower incisors, and is complete at around 30-36 months of age when second primary molars erupt. However, the timing of tooth eruption varies by as much as six months.

Halitosis in children

Halitosis originates from the Latin word “halitus,” which means breath, and the Greek suffix osis refers to a condition or pathologic process. This prevalent disorder, also referred to as bad breath, used to explain the unpleasant breath emitted from the mouth of either oral or nonoral origin that seems unpleasant or offensive to others.

Pit and fissure sealants

Grooves or pits and fissures on occlusal surfaces of primary and permanent posterior teeth trap food debris and promote the presence of bacteria due to their deep and morphological complexity thereby increasing the risk of developing cavities. Effectively penetrating and sealing these surfaces with a dental material like pit-and-fissure sealants providing a physical barrier that inhibits microorganisms and food particles accumulation can prevent lesions.
